Man könnte fast meinen, das sei die Rache der Götter – oder hat sich das Land dies selbst zuzuschreiben, weil es seine Denkmäler und Städte verkommen lässt statt sie zu sanieren? Wohl gelten laxe Bauplanungen und die mangelnde Umsetzung von Umweltnormen als mitverantwortlich dafür, dass Hochwasser katastrophale Folgen haben kann.
Der italienische Umweltminister Corrado Clini sagte gegenüber der Presse sogar, dass 40 Milliarden Euro über die nächsten 15 Jahre notwendig seien, um die ständige Gefahr der Unwetterkatastrophen zu bannen. Und nicht zuletzt die Katastrophe mit dem Kreuzfahrtschiff, der „Costa Concordia“ Anfang des Jahres, bei der dramatischerweise der Kapitän angeblich „zum Winken“ zu nah ans Ufer gefahren ist und somit fahrlässig die Havarie mit zahlreichen Toten und Verletzten verursacht hat.
Ist das schöne Italien unter diesen Umständen überhaupt noch eine ernstzunehmende Wirtschaftsgröße? Wir meinen – trotz allem – ja! Nach wie vor ist Deutschland offenbar wichtigster Handelspartner Italiens und liegt mit einem Exportanteil von 12,7 % und einem Importanteil von 15,9 % noch vor Frankreich, mit 11,2 % bzw. 8,5 %. Auch wenn die deutsch-italienische Freundschaft in diesem Sommer ein wenig getrübt wurde, als Mario Balotteli die deutsche Fußball-Nationalelf aus der WM schoss, reisen die Deutschen immer noch gerne nach Italien, flanieren durch die Straßen und sind weiterhin große Abnehmer von Olivenöl und anderen Leckereien.
An Schulen wird der deutsch-italienische Austausch ebenfalls weiterhin gepflegt. Und auch bei Lingua-World werden die Sprachkombinationen Deutsch-Italienisch und Italienisch-Deutsch sehr häufig angefragt. Gerade im technischen Bereich, bei Handwerkergutachten, Bauanleitungen sowie in der Medizin oder der Schuhindustrie gibt es noch rege Kommunikation mit den italienischen Kolleginnen und Kollegen. So bleibt Italien trotz allem immer noch das Land der Liebe, der Romantik und der Ästhetik: Denn Schmusesänger Eros Ramazzotti hat ein neues Album herausgebracht, und seine Ex-Frau Michelle Hunziker ist endlich wieder frisch verliebt. Wenn es da nicht noch Anlass zur Hoffnung gibt?!
Italy – Has it lost its shine?
In our last blog entry, we reported on the glamorous image of “Bella Italia” (‚Beautiful Italy‘), which unfortunately seems to be deteriorating more and more. As it wasn’t enough that Italy’s former Prime Minister and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi is now facing time in jail, the country is also currently being plagued by heavy rainfall and flooding, above all in Tuscany and the North.
It’s almost enough to make you think that Italy is experiencing the revenge of the gods; or is the country itself at fault because it has left its towns, cities and monuments to deteriorate instead of renovating them? Lax construction planning and the deficient implementation of environmental standards are indeed some of the reasons as to why flooding can have catastrophic consequences.
In fact, the Italian Environment Minister Corrado Clini even told the press that 40 billion euros are needed over the next 15 years in order to eliminate the constant risk of natural disasters. Last but not least, Italy also experienced another catastrophe in the form of the cruise ship “Costa Concordia” at the beginning of the year, when the ship’s captain allegedly took the dramatic decision to sail too close to the shore “in order to wave to his friends”, which led to negligent damage that resulted in a multitude of deaths and injuries.
Can beautiful Italy really be taken seriously as an economic power under such circumstances? Despite all that has happened, we say yes! Germany is still evidently Italy’s most important trade partner, with an export share of 12.7% and an import share of 15.9%, putting Germany ahead of France and its shares of 11.2% and 8.5% respectively. Although the German and Italian friendship took a bit of a knock this summer when Mario Balotelli knocked the German national football team out of the World Cup, Germans still like to travel to Italy to stroll along the streets of its towns and cities and are also still major consumers of olive oil and other Italian delicacies.
German and Italian relations are receiving continued support in schools and at Lingua-World, the demand is still extremely high when it comes to the language combinations of German > Italian and Italian > German, resulting in active communication between the company and our Italian colleagues, in particular in technical subject areas, for documents such as expert opinions from tradesmen and construction manuals and in the medical and footwear industries. Despite everything, Italy is still known as the land of love, romance and aesthetics, with the crooner Eros Ramazzotti recently releasing a new album and his ex-wife Michelle Hunziker finally finding new love again. Surely this alone is a reason for hope?
